What's it all about?

NOC supplies members with a weekly box of organic produce with the option to also get organic breads and free range eggs. From time to time we also bulk buy organic dry goods (eg rice, legumes etc, oils and other environmentally sound products).

NOC is involved in community initiatives which promote a healthier lifestyle and environment (eg courses on Wholefoods, free movie nights, local food swaps, solar options and community festivals). Despite being an NFP Incorporated association with no paid staff NOC has won 2 consecutive Business Excellence Awards.

Our Statement of Purposes reflects the philosophy underpinning NOC.

1. To provide an affordable opportunity to buy organic produce

2. To encourage the consumption of organic produce

3. To encourage and support organic farming practices.

4. To reduce food miles and food packaging and encourage/promote sustainable consumption practices.

5. To provide an opportunity for community building between people who live within the City of Hobsons Bay.

Newport Organic Collective Inc had a different beginning to the other organic food co-ops. It was part of a university course, which required the students to undertake a project that demonstrated “Sustainable Behavioural Change”. The establishment of NOC was based on a combination of community based social marketing theory, business modelling and the experience of one of the team members in another co-op (SOC). Over a three month time span the project team conducted community consultation, registered NOC as an Incorporated NPF Association with an ABN and organised for the election of committee members.
