What's it all about?

The Food is Free Project began in the USA in 2012, when John Edwards planted vegetables in his front garden in Austin, Texas, and put out a sign saying: “Food is Free, Help Yourself”.

#foodisfreesunshine is a group for people who are interested in working together to grow & share food and build connections in the community.

Our objective is simple: to grow and harvest food locally and share it with everyone. We believe that everyone should have access to fresh, healthy food, and that by sharing our food, we will build kinder, more connected communities in our towns.

#foodisfree is a program with a vision and wish to empower us with the knowledge and know-how to transform our community. Using salvaged materials we are building front yard community gardens for all to share.
Imagine walking down a block lined with fresh produce ready for the picking. Neighbours not only growing food together, but becoming friends and supporting one another.
